IBM Lotus Domino

So, our company has just been bought out and we we have created a VPN tunnel between us and the new parent, they now wish to route all emails between us and them over the VPN, to make it more interesting they are running Exchange and we are running Domino (though this really makes no difference for mail routing), so how do we do this?

Create a new configuration document, select the tab Router/SMTP and enable the option ‘SMTP used when sending messages outside of the local internet domain’. Here we tell that the server has to send all mail over SMTP if it is an external domain. Which actually makes the server capable of communicating with the outside world.

Create a new domain document, choose Foreign SMTP domain as the domain type. Choose the tab routing, and enter parentcompany.com in the field Internet Domain. Here we actually say that every email that matches this domain name will be handled by this domain document.

Next, Domain Name, enter ‘parentcompany’ here, We actually need to copy this value on another document later on.

Now the logical part, where we are going to say that SMTP mails have to be send to ‘parentcompany’. Create a new connection document, choose SMTP as connection type. The Source server is the full name of the server that will send the SMTP mails (your Domino server)

In destination server enter the IP address of the parent companies mail server.  Next thing to enter is Destination Domain, here you have to fill in the value you have entered in the Domain Field of the Foreign Domain document, parentcompany in this example.
